The Sokoto State Operations of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, made an arrest of two Chinese,Meng Wei and Xu Kuai, for giving a hug sum of N50 million as bribe to the Zonal Head,Abdullahi Lawal.
Both suspect where arrested on Monday, May 11, 2020 in Sokoto after paying the promised N50 million bribe. The bribe was allegedly given in an intense bid to compromise the ongoing investigations of a construction company,China Zhounghao Nigeria Limited, managing contracts awarded by the Zamfara State Government with the sum of N50, million (Fifty Billion Naira) between 2012 to 2019.
The zonal office of the Commission is investigating the construction company, with connection with the penalty of contracts for the construction of township roads in Gummi, Bukkuyun, Anka and Nassarawa towns of Zamfara state; also includes the construction of one hundred and sixty eight (168) solar- powered boreholes in the 14 local government areas of the state.
After the consistency and professionalism of investigation being conducted, the company offered Lawal the sum of One Hundred Million Naira as bribe to “bury” the case.
In position to track the corrupt officials, Lawal literary plaid along, also on Monday, two representatives of the company Meng Wei Kun and Xu Kuai offered him cash totaling N50 millioe in their office along airport road, Sokoto. The cash was given as their first installment.
